Phek, February 5 (MExN): The Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) held its 17th Cultural Day on February 4 at Pfutsero Sports Complex where a total of 11 affiliated units and villages competed in various cultural competitions.


Former Home Minister and Working President NPF Central Thenucho Tunyi and Keyirangding Hegue (NCS), Project Director DRDA Phek graced the Inaugural programme and closing function as Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. 


As per a press release from CAGSA Press Secretary Shuyeve Kezo, the Chief Guest unfurled the Association flag. In his address to the gathering, Tunyi expressed the importance and uniqueness of Chokrimi culture. He urged the youth to preserve the rich cultural heritage passed down by the forefathers. Nagaland is for Christ, said Tunyi and reminded the people of the Chakhesangs' stand on Naga political issue “where our people have decided to uphold the 1951 Naga Plebiscite.”


In the closing function, the Guest of Honor expressed happiness to be a part of the programme and appreciated the importance the Chakhesang accords to cultural activities, especially traditional games and sports.


As a government officer, he sought cooperation from the public for better implementation of various government schemes and to bring more development under his department. Later, Hegue gave away prizes to winners and de-hoisted the Association flag thereby, bringing the programme to a conclusion. 


Vesatso Khamo, Cultural Secretary chaired the inaugural programme. Invocation prayer was done by Rev Dzuthohu Kezo, Pastor Kikruma Baptist Church. Vekhayi Ruho delivered the presidential address, while Zumosa Kezo of KWOP brought greetings. 


In the Group Folk Dance, Thipuzu Youth Organization secured the 1st position while Phusachodu Youth Organization was the runner-up. In Group Folk Song (Women), Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organization emerged the winner and Phusachodu Youth Organization was the runner-up. In Native Duet: 1st- Phusachodu Youth Organization, 2nd - North Kikruma Youth Organization. In Traditional Fire Making: 1st-Rukizu Youth Organization, 2nd-Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organization. Tug of War was won by Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organization and Phusachodu Youth Organization was the runner up.
