Assessment camp for Persons with Disability and the Senior Citizens in Impur

Impur, February 20 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) Social Concern, in collaboration with the PMDK Dimapur (ALIMCO) and Mokokchung District Disability Forum (MDDF) organised an assessment camp for the Persons with Disability and the Senior Citizens for Zone 1-7 of ABAM at Impur on February 18 and 19.

The Camp was held under Assistance to the Person with Disability (ADIP) schemes and Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana (RVY).
During the introduction, Rev Dr Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM emphasised the importance of equality within the Church. He stated that the church serves every member without discrimination. He also encouraged congregations to adopt a holistic approach in their ministry, reflecting the comprehensive nature of God’s mission, and this camp is one example.

In a press release, Rev Mar said, “In addition to the need for spiritual care, the physical needs of individuals have become increasingly evident.” As people age, their physical limitations often become undeniable, making many elderly individuals feel helpless. Simultaneously, the requirement for assistive devices for people with disabilities has also become a significant concern for many families, he stated.

Recognizing the opportunity to serve those in need, this collaborative assessment camp was organised through the ADIP and RVY schemes to provide essential assistance. It was also stated that assistive materials such as tricycles, wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, and hearing aids will be given for free to deserving individuals. A total of 350 beneficiary assessments from 39 churches were conducted at the camp.

ABAM has expressed appreciation to ALIMCO and Dr Imli Ozüküm, CMO of Tuensang, for their contributions, and CMO Mokokchung, Medical Superintendent, IMDH for providing their staff for the camp.
