Mokokchung, February 19 (MExN): Employees under District Education Office, Mokokchung are going through a tough time due to non-payment of January, 2011 salary simply because of the absence of a Drawing and Dispatching Officer (DTO) who is the DEO himself.
There are five High Schools under the DEO, Mokokchung. Interestingly even the employees of the DEO, Mokokchung are yet to receive their January month salary, because the new DEO of Mokokchung is yet to arrive in station. The former DEO Lanutemjen retired in December 2010; it is learnt that the School Education Department is yet to dispatch or appoint a new DEO for Mokokchung.
Nonetheless, an employee of one High School under the DEO Mokokchung strongly lamented that the teachers, staff of the schools and also the DEO Office are made to suffer unnecessarily; since the government could have given the DDO responsibility to one of the many Government High Schools in Mokokchung who have DDO power for their school.
“This problem is simply because of the absence of DEO, Mokokchung. Whether an officer takes leave, or gets transferred or retires, the alternative means to shoulder the DEO responsibility should have been arranged,” said the employee who wished not to be named. He disclosed that because of this non-payment of salary for the month of January, 2011 the employees are suffering a lot especially during this time of the year, when school admission is going on, and children studying outside have to go back after their winter vacation.
Call it negligence or apathy, but for the employees in the five high schools and the DEO, Mokokchung office, it’s a tough time they are undergoing since the monthly salary is their only source of income. It is unclear when the new DEO will be appointed for Mokokchung district.
“We are made to suffer unnecessarily,” said the employee with a sigh of frustration.
