In addition, the Department of English inaugurated their certificate course titled ‘English Language Proficiency’ for working professionals on March 28. The course co-ordinator, Anjan Behera welcomed the participants and emphasized on the importance of this course. Having good communication skills and a sound knowledge of the English language makes working professionals more confident, sociable, and increases their value at work. Research conducted in many universities have shown that candidates with strong English language skills perform better at the workplace and are more likely to receive promotions. Having a standard accent eliminates the possibility of the speaker getting sidelined as an outsider.

The Principal, Dr. P. S. Lorin encouraged the participants of this course by stating that education for a teacher never stops. In the past, students were accustomed to traditional modes of teaching, which often made learning uninteresting. But courses like these, which will be practical, oriented, are part of a new dimension of learning, making education more effective.

Intended for working professionals, this course will help learners improve their English language skills, polish their grammar, hone their accent, and help them enhance their writing skills. Raleng elaborated on the syllabus and the curriculum set for the course. Three instructors will be training the students- Raleng who has specialised in Linguistics from NEHU, Behera who has specialised in Communication Studies from Christ University, and Veduvolu Khosoh who has specialised in English Language Teaching from EFL University, and has worked in the Republic of Columbia as a communication skills instructor. Other lecturers from the department will also provide help as and when needed.
