KVK Wokha has taken up various income generation activities for effective utilization of leisure time of rural women towards productive activities which will help them to be self reliance. Need based trainings cum demonstration were provided to the rural women groups which offered self employment and empowerment opportunities for improving their standard of living. These training facilitated rural women to sustain themselves and make themselves reliant economically.
Enterprises which are commercially and ecologically viable, sustainable and profitable were chosen and implemented. Economic utilization of local natural available resources through proper value addition and processing were the fundamental step in this direction. KVK Wokha particularly under Home Science and extension took keen interest towards these women groups in the areas like investment in home scale processing and preservation and also other income generation activities using simple skills and simple techniques. Women groups were made aware to keep in mind the importance of selection of their activities in respect to the availability of raw materials, market feasibility and types of activity for effective implementation of these developmental programmes.
Workshop - like trainings cum demonstrations were imparted to the women of different villages on particularly home scale based food preservation and processing like squash, jam making, candy making, tutti fruti making, pickle making, etc. income generating activities like soft toy making, flower making, aloe Vera soap making and mushroom cultivation etc. Trainings were imparted in such a way to make sure that the women are participating and are learning by doing in the trainings. Training cum method demonstrations on value addition, home scale processing, preservation, soft toy making, floral brooch making and other income generating activities were imparted to the rural women and female youths and therefore, had contributed directly in allowing rural women to involve themselves in income productive activities and there by earn considerable income.
