Kohima, May 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development (NEPED) under one of its project entitled ‘Enhancing Livelihood through Community Based Piggery’ conducted a 3-day village animal health workers training at SAMETI Training Centre (IETC), Medziphema from May 12 to 14.
A press release stated that total 19 health workers from 17 villages attended the programme. Navaj Bhai Rattan Tata Trust (NRTT), Mumbai, is funding the project.
The training saw both theory and practical classes; wherein, it provided training on- first aid services (de-worming, diarrhoea, ear tagging, vaccination, castration, treatment of wounds, fever). Support in baseline/ end line data collection. Awareness creation and information dissemination (mainly on health, nutrition, and management) through a series of discussion, lectures and farm visits. It also created linkages between pig producers and relevant stakeholders that include feed suppliers, medicines, piglets and insurance. The practical classes provided hands-on training in treatment of skin infection and wounds, Castration, Vaccinations and Ear tagging exercises for pig identification.
Chiden Yaden, POU Member NEPED, chaired the program and exhortation was delivered by Nguzonyi Wetsah Principal, SAMETI, IETC Medziphema. The resource persons present were Dr. Catherine Rutsa, Assistant Professor & Project in-charge All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig, Nagaland University SASRD Medziphema, Dr. Riisalie Nakhro, Junior Research fellowship, All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig, Nagaland University SASRD Medziphima, NEPED POU member and Vizonyu Liezie, NEPED-NRTT SMSs Dr. S. Mangyang, Dr. Atouzo Pienyu and Dr. Vihielie Sanchu.
