Tuensang, May 11 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Gaon Burahs (ENPO GBs) Union has “unequivocally” appealed to the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) to enter into a formal ceasefire agreement without further delay.
The urgency of the situation demands immediate and sincere action to alleviate suffering, asserted the Union, which represents the GBs of six districts in Eastern Nagaland — Tuensang, Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator — as well as eight tribes: Konyak, Chang, Tikhir, Phom, Sangtam, Yimkhiung, Khiamniungan, and Eastern Sumi.
“We stand united as the traditional custodians of our people, land, and peace,” stated a press release from the ENPO GBs Union President, issued on May 10.
Accordingly, the Union conveyed its full endorsement of the call made by the Nagaland Gaon Buras Federation for a ceasefire between the GoI and the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu), terming it an essential step towards a comprehensive, inclusive, and early political solution to the long-standing Naga issue.
“Our people have endured decades of conflict, and it is time for peace to prevail across Nagaland and particularly in the Eastern Naga areas,” the ENPO GBs Union added.
It further asserted that the grassroots leadership, embodied by the GBs, has always stood for stability, justice, and the well-being of the people, and affirmed that it “cannot and will not accept further violence in our lands.”
The time has come for all stakeholders to rise above narrow interests and act in the true spirit of Naga unity and reconciliation, it added.
Accordingly, the ENPO GBs Union called upon all parties to honour the aspirations of the Naga people, adding that a ceasefire is not merely a symbolic gesture but a critical and foundational step towards realising a peaceful and honourable solution to the Naga political issue.
“Let this be a turning point. Let peace and dialogue replace bloodshed and division,” it added.
