ENSF laments poor medical services in rural areas

Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation today expressed its deep concern about the lack of doctors and other medical staffs and other facilities in the hospitals and other medical centers in the interior areas and demanded the government to address the problem by redeploying staffs and facilities in all the medical centers in the eastern Naga areas.

A press release received here from the Joint Secretary of the ENSF, T Likhumse, while highlighting the plight of the people in the interior areas, stated that the steps taken up by the state medical department to improve the health services is hardly visible in the past years in the eastern side of Nagaland as compared to other parts, and added that a progressive move on healthcare services in the region is requires at present.

The release stated that the ENSF had lauded and acknowledged the government for setting up health centers in almost all the areas, however, the ENSF pointed out that centers are running with shortage of doctors, nurses, medicines, equipment and infrastructure, which puts the patients life at the interior areas at a higher risk of dying due to negligence.

The release also stated that the clamorous demand for the medical improvement in this regard by the various sections of the society is being redressed at a slow pace, which further reflects to human vitality in the rural areas.

The release stated compounded with the multi problems like non-stationing of medical staffs and poor supply of medicines and also ignorance and poverty, the life of the people in the rural areas have been plunged into plight.

The release expressed its displeasure at the medical department for being apathetic towards the people and their grievances.

“While taking account of entire grievances, the Federation express displeasure to concern department for less responsive and attention and glancing over all situation without analyzing reality is resentful,” the release stated.

The ENSF, in the light of this, demanded the medical department to redeploy the medical staffs in the areas.

“The Federation insist department to take right perspective and retrieve to sweep away the present problems in its zone by redeploying staffs and facilities in all centers,” stated the release.

Further, the release also stated that many government officials abstain from work in the rural areas on the pretext of ‘environment’ and urged them to restrain from such attitude in order to avoid any confusion to maintain peaceful co-existence.

The release also mentioned that the Tuensang Civil Hospital has been facing shortage of doctors and medical staffs, and that the ‘Tsadang Primary Health Centre’ is in a pathetic condition. The release demanded instant renovation work to be carried out at the two medical institutions in the interest of the public.

Furthermore, the release informed all the medical staffs posted and transferred within the four districts to join respective services without any lapses of time and asserted that the Federation will take any measure upon ‘reckless employees in its jurisdiction in due course for public welfare and benefits.
