ENSF protests EAC post for ‘non eastern Naga’

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): An organization representing the eastern regions of the State wants the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and government recruiting agencies to “verify the credentials of the applicants” especially concerning indigenous inhabitants, scheduled tribes and ‘backward tribes’ certifications before appointing them. The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) today cited an instance where a candidate from the Sangtam tribe was found to be a Muslim, allegedly.

According to the ENSF, one Relise Sangtam “is not Sangtam by birth but a Muslim and acquired the citizenship of Kiphire village through marriage.” The ENSF claimed that the said candidate has “committed fraud” in his documents; he used his maternal grandfather’s name as his father’s name. His father hails from Jharkhand and presently runs a garage in Kiphire town. Acquiring citizenship of Kiphire village does not give him or anyone the license to avail the BT quota, the ENSF asserted.

The organization has demanded that the candidate “should be immediately removed from the post of EAC” nor “should he be accommodated in any government services or agencies with such fraud documents as it is against the government notifications and procedures.” In his place, the government is asked to immediately recruit “genuine Sangtam candidates in the Sangtam BT Quota immediately before further delay.” The eastern organization has said the NPSC or any government recruiting agencies should verify the credentials of the applicants.

This is required especially for Indigenous Inhabitant, Scheduled Tribe and Backward Tribe certificates before appointment, it stated. The ENSF declared that “eastern Naga tribal organizations” defending the case of “non-eastern Nagas by blood” would not be acceptable.

Only “eastern Nagas by blood” should be accommodated in the 25% Job Reservation BT Quota in all government departments, it stated. Likewise, all the government notifications “must be strictly adhered and implemented in all the areas concerning the interest of the six tribes of eastern Nagaland and Nagas in general so as to avert any complications and any officers or departmental HODs misinterpreting and misappropriating their powers for their own selfish interest should be awarded befitting punitive actions.” The press release was appended by President Hawang T Wangsha and Speaker Throngso Yimchungrü.
