ENSF rejects socio-economic census

Dimapur, January 11 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) today declared that it will not cooperate with the socio-economic and caste census in Nagaland. The country-wide census is to commence this January. The ENSF claimed that the nature of the census, “of the state government” is “unknown and vague.”

A note from the ENSF today said that the organization is “duty bound to oppose the proposed socio-economic and caste census” of the “state government” scheduled from January 16.

“It is to mention that the Federation had resolved not to co-operate with the government basing on the resolution taken/adopted during the ENSF federal assembly held at Tuensang town in 2011. This drastic decision of the ENSF was necessitated as a result of the poor dissemination of necessary information regarding the census based on socio-economic and caste by the state government and the motive/objective behind the drive,” the ENSF said.

The organization has directed all its units’ not to cooperate in the exercise of the “state government” until further notice from the ENSF. “It is reiterated that the ENSF shall not let our people be a scapegoat in the wrong policies of the state government and will not act as a partner in this exercise as the nature of the drive is unknown and vague,” The district administration is also “requested to sincerely co-operate and honour the decision” to “generate and maintain peaceful understanding in disseminating the merits of such an exercise.”
