‘Ensure justice for sustainable relations’

Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The 17th general conference of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) came to a conclusion at Dimapur Ton Hall, with the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Lalthara, as the chief guest. Speaking during the function, Lalthara asserted that there is a need for justice in the Naga society. Defining justice, the Chief Secretary affirmed that justice can be realised when the ‘public interest’ can prevail over ‘individual interest’. In this regard, Lalthara regretted that though the Highway-39 had been sanctioned to be a four-lane road in the early nineties, yet it could not be realised because of the fact that the people cannot overcome public interest in place of individual interest.

He also expressed that to nurture a sustainable relation (the theme of the 17th DNSU general conference) the people of the society must try to dispense justice. “There is a need for justice, unless we ensure justice there can’t be sustainable relations…” the Chief Secretary asserted, in this regard he urged upon the student community to work for the welfare of the society as a whole.

Earlier in the programme, the election commissioner of the DNSU, Pushika Awomi, declared the newly elected executive members of the DNSU. The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union will be headed by Medovoi Medeo as president, and Akum Pongen as the vice president. Short speeches by the outgoing president and the president elect were also delivered.  The president of the Dimapur Naga Council, Savi Legiese, also expressed the Council’s solidarity with the DNSU.

In a highly emotionally charged speech, K Ela, the Director of Prodigals Home, Dimapur, challenged the students present to be agents of change for the cause of the disabled children. Speaking on the topic of disabled children, the Director of Prodigals Home, Dimapur, K Ela, encouraged the Naga students to convince the “children with special needs” to go to school, and to convince the parents and teachers to send and accept these children at school. A special song was also present by Tovili Swu and friends from SD Jain Girls College.
