ENWO Dimapur condemns alleged rape of minor

Dimapur, March 29 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Women Organisation (ENWO), Dimapur Unit today expressed deep hurt and anger over the recent alleged rape of a minor by a 55 year in Dimapur on March 20.

The ENWO Dimapur Unit in a press statement alleged that “this shameful incident is not the first of its kind for our Eastern Nagaland family members but many a times we have been abused sexually and mentally and discriminated because of our social and economic backwardness.”

It stated that due to “poverty beyond survival” in the remote Eastern Nagaland areas; most of the parents send their loved ones as young as 5-6 yrs to towns and cities to work as a helper and study to become economically independent. “Our desperate hope for a better and secure future has turned into horror and nightmare for most of these kids and parents,” it said

The ENWO Dimapur Unit also observed that the ‘Naga society’s concept of peaceful co-existence with forgiveness and compromise has instead made our society a paradise of wrong doings without remorse and has encouraged the scum of the society to become bolder in their actions.’

Therefore, it appealed to bring the perpetrators to justice without compromise and further delay and make an example for making mockery of the justice system in Nagaland and also request the authorities to bring swift justice for the victim and her family and award the perpetrator with befitting sentence.
