EU Ambassadors in Nagaland?

The visit of the of the 7 European Union Ambassadors to Nagaland is unimaginable. Turkey, the only secular democratic Islamic country, economically more successful than many EU members, would have been besides itself if one Ambassador from the EU visited them!

The foremost question in our mind is: What has germinated their mind for the visit? It is an undreamed of occasion for Nagaland and of great happiness too. It is like an Elephant visiting a Tragopan Bird!

A local News Papers speculated a highly unlikely Agenda that the Delegation is coming: “to facilitate the on-going Indo-Naga Political talks”.

If so, the Delegates may as well go to Autonomous Region of Tibet in China and talk with the Tibetan Monks there to facilitate China-Dalai Lama Political settlement or Mrs. Clinton to Cuba to facilitate Talk between Cuban Dissidents and Fidel Castro.

Definitely, the visit is not for facilitating the settlement of the ‘on-going Indo-Naga Political Talk’, at least not Officially. I am not a Diplomat, but the topic would be highly out of the decency in India and Nagaland for such a highly civilized and democratic nations as the European Union.

Short of memory Nagas would remember the Quakers of UK were not given Visa to come to India for involvement in the same topic just half a year ago and Thuingaleng Muivah was not allowed to go to Manipur for the same reason. Official Visits of Representatives of Nations to one another are not casual matters.

If the Ambassadors officially do such an unlikely thing, they would only confuse still further the Naga Hoho, the NSF, the Naga Mother’s Association, all Billboards of Nagaland and many good Naga Christians too, including the FNR and the involved Groups.

The Delegates may like to see the vestiges and remnants of God’s creations in Nagaland. In this, the Delegates are all more than welcome.

But the State does not have the Economy, the Technology Know-how, the Organizational Expertise and Education qualities, to preserve and utilize its precious Forest Environments, Flora and Fauna -perhaps of God’s last Acre here- and Nagaland would very much welcome the EU.

What interested the European Union to visit Nagaland?

I wish I were Ms. Angela Merkel.
