EU envoys told to tell Naga political story

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The NNC (Panger) appeals to the European ambassadors who are on a visit to Nagaland to ‘go back to your countries and tell your respective governments about the Naga historical and political rights and urge them to recognize the democratic rights of the Naga people for freedom.’ A note from the NNC received here today  said that the organization under the leadership of “gen.(rtd)” I Panger, Z Royim Yimchungrii and V Nagi warmly welcomes the European Union ambassadors in Nagaland.

“The Naga people are really happy to see seven ambassadors and the European Union together visiting Naga homeland for the first time in this manner after many years. This is a very positive sign for the Naga people and freedom in particular in this part of the world,” the NNC note stated.

The NNC narrated the Nag political issue saying that the people have been struggling for the past 60 years for recognition of their historical and political rights as a sovereign nation “since we declared independence on 14 August 1947.”  The NNC also mentioned the “plebiscite” of 1951 which the NNC asserted “99.9%” Nagas favored “sovereign independence of Nagaland” from India. “…fighting began between the Naga people and the Government of India on one side and the military Junta of Myanmar on the other side because of the forceful occupation of Naga lands by the armed forces of both countries. The political problem continues to this day and neither the Government of India nor the military Junta of Myanmar have managed to solve it,” the NNC stated.

“Therefore, the NNC on behalf of the Nagas as a whole appeals to all the democratic Countries of the world, the European Union and its member countries to recognize the historical and political rights of the Nagas as a Sovereign Nation for the sake of peace and economic development in this part of the South East Asia.”

“When you go back to your countries, please tell your respective governments about the Naga historical and political rights and urge them to recognize the democratic rights of the Naga people for freedom,” the NNC stated.
