“Achieving excellence is not a destination but a life-long journey and we must continuously strive to achieve excellence,” said Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary on Friday.

Addressing a gathering of 72nd session of Rotomi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (RKK) cum 5th Get Together of RKK at Rotomi village, he said achieving excellence needed preparation right from the beginning and to be passionate about the goal. He also stressed on the need to identify one’s talents and to work hard on it. However, Kikheto said that the students also need to work smart besides working hard and added that the difference between the two was that working smart includes intensive preparation for all situations which might be lacking in being working hard without preparation. He said working smart is like knowing the algebra formula which makes it easier to solve the problems without wasting too much of time and energy.

Kikheto pointed out that the Rotomis had produced a good number of leaders and officers who were raised by illiterate parents with limited resources. “These days students are sent to good institutes with all facilities but the result is not upto expectations and we must all strive to not simply succeed but succeed with excellence.

Kikheto said that the Naga people tend to do what have been told not to do and cited the example of bursting crackers during the festive season even though the Government banned the activity for environmental, health and situational reasons. Stating that such defiance are carried out mostly by Christians who are members of the Church, Kikheto urged the Churches to exhort the congregation on such issues.

“Festive season is the best season but the nights during this time are the worst nights. We sing about Silent Night but convert it into noisy night,” he added.

Kikheto said a new Nagaland was dawning for the Nagas but lamented that the society was lacking good leaders who could speak the truth. “Scarcity of commodities can still be tackled but scarcity of good leaders cannot be bought even with money and so we must all pray to God to bless us with good leaders in the society,” he said.

The programme is being attended by hundreds of students from all the units of RKK, non-residential Rotomis, GBs, elders and leaders from neighbouring villages.
