Mon, November 6 (MExN): An eye care camp for senior citizens was held at the District Hospital, Mon with Advisor for Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak, gracing the event as the chief guest on November 6.

The camp was jointly organised by the Department of Social Welfare and the Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur, with support from the District Hospital, Mon, stated a DIPR report.

In his address, Advisor Konyak stated that the initiative to restore eyesight for the elderly is a reminder to ensure they “are not left behind.” He highlighted the department's role in uplifting vulnerable groups through social assistance and protection.

Konyak detailed government schemes for the elderly, including the Old Age Pension and Elderly Helpline, and informed that the government plans to establish an Old Age Home in every district. He also urged the beneficiaries to follow their doctors' advice for a speedy recovery. He extended gratitude to Dr Chingkup Konyak and their team from Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur, District Hospital, Mon and Deputy Commissioner Mon.

Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, expressed gratitude to the organisers and noted that blindness in society is often due to a lack of facilities and awareness. He encouraged the public to go for timely eye check-ups.

Dr. Ngopole Keviechu, DTO Mon shared about the importance of eyesight and the medication of the eye problem, while Dr Chingkup, Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur explained on the overview of the camp.
