The Football Association Phek District (PDFA) has  put forward a proposal to the state government for installation of Astro Turf Football Ground in Phek district.

The proposal was made to the chairman of District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Phek in May this year.

“The sports scenario in the state has seen significant changes in recent years, with the state government placing much importance on development and providing platforms for the young generation to pursue sports professionally,” the FAPD stated, adding “priority is given to infrastructural development at the grassroots level. Many such developments have been witnessed across the state, yet our district has not seen any progress in this regard till date,” the FAPD stated.

Currently, our district team cannot compete with other districts in terms of quality, stamina, and skills, as all major tournaments are conducted on AstroTurf football grounds, of which our district has none, it stated.

In this, FAPD put forth the proposal to the state government, for consideration, keeping in mind the welfare of the younger generation and their need for facilities to stay physically fit and competitive at any level.

FAPD aims to propose the installation of an AstroTurf football ground within our district to enhance our sports facilities and support community health and engagement, it stated.

The Association maintained that the increasing popularity of football and other sports in Phek district has highlighted the need for high-quality, durable playing surfaces.

Additionally, FAPD stated, the facility can attract regional tournaments and events, boosting local tourism and the economy, in addition to building confidence and motivating a football culture in young minds.
