Zunheboto, March 16 (MExN): Farmers from four villages in Zunheboto district gathered at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto under Nagaland University to witness the release of the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13.
The programme was organised to enable farmers to watch the live telecast of the nationwide event marking the release of financial assistance under the PM-KISAN scheme to farmers across the country.
Farmers from four villages actively participated in the programme and expressed appreciation for the Government of India’s continued support to the farming community.
During the programme, a technical session on pest management was conducted by Wapangtoshi Longkumer, ACTO (Plant Protection), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto. He trained the farmers on effective and eco-friendly methods for controlling pests in crops, emphasising the importance of timely pest identification and integrated pest management practices to reduce crop losses.
The farmers were also provided with yellow sticky traps to help control pest populations.
Earlier, Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto, welcomed the farmers and highlighted the significance of the PM-KISAN scheme in supporting farmers’ livelihoods.
He encouraged the farmers to utilise the financial assistance judiciously to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen farm-based livelihoods in the district.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which farmers shared their experiences and discussed agricultural challenges and opportunities for enhancing farm income in the region.
The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto towards empowering farmers through awareness, training and dissemination of improved agricultural technologies.
