Farmers get a glimpse of ‘Eco-friendly technology on plantation’

DIMAPUR, May 22 (MExN): Commemorating the Year of the Farmers, Care-Centre for Environment and Rural Poor (C-CERP) organized a two-day training program for the farmers here at the Industrial Growth Centre, Export Promotion Centre, Ganeshnagar, Dansiripar Block, Dimapur. Sponsored by the Toyota Motor Corporation the camp was organized under the theme “Eco-friendly technology on nursery raising, vegetable gardening, fruit cultivation and tree plantation”, with 75 participants representing various organizations under 15 villages attending the camp. 

Dr. R. Elithung, District Horticulture Officer (DHO), Dimapur, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The resource persons were Dr. Akali, Dr. Pauline Alila, Dr. L. Daiho, S.P. Kanuajija, Lecturer, Horticulture Society, Agriculture College, Medziphema, Nagaland. 

The resource persons deliberated on various topics like Inter-Alia Nursery Raising and Planting, Ginger Plantation with protective measure, Vegetable gardening, Scope and Management of Fruit cultivation and other related issues. They also exhorted on the importance of fruit for health, the methods of various plantation suitable to the soil and climate, use of bio-pesticides, how to access the products in the market and further encouraged the participants to start kitchen-garden through organic methods.

The farmer participants were taken for a practical demonstration at the C-CERP’s Eco-farm site at Beisumpuikam village where they were educated on the method of planting trees practically, by the resource persons. 

Besides the resource person present, the Director of C-CERP, Liangsi Niumai John highlighted on the importance of ‘Local Tree Plantation’ against exotic tree plantation such as Teak, Pine, Eucalyptus etc and shared on the negative  effects of planting exotic trees. The two-day camp was marked with various practical exercises which included capacity-building. The participants were given time to discuss and interact with the various resource persons and the C-CERP team. 

The camp was also attended, besides the farmer participants, by many other dignitaries, invitees, well-wishers, village chairmans, GBs, Pastors and Women SHG from Peren and Dimapur district. 

Through a press communiqué received here, the organizers has expressed heartfelt gratitude to  the chief guest, resource persons and Director Industries and Commerce/NIDC for providing the venue and programme with various amenities and also to the entire participants concern for making the camp to a grand success.
