Response to the critics
Acknowledging the skepticism from certain corners in the society about the conduct of UGC-NET Exams in Mokokchung, Nagaland University officials today asserted that the successful conduct of UGC-NET exams today proved that Mokokchung can be a viable centre for conducting such exams. They acknowledged the various views and opinions from concerned citizens questioning the logic of conducting the exams at Mokokchung, and not at Kohima or Dimapur as before. The NU officials overseeing the exams pointed out that as per UGC norms the exams have to be conducted at the University Campus itself, however since the NU Hq Lumami does not have sufficient infrastructure to conduct the exams, they have to opt for the nearest town to the NU Headquarters, keeping in mind the interest of the students. They maintained that the UGC-NET Exams will be conducted in Mokokchung town, as long as the Lumami campus is not fully developed as to accommodate the hundreds of students appearing the prestigious exams. It is learnt that the NSF officials have met the Nagaland University Officials urging the University officials to shift the venue of the exam. However, the NU officials stood steadfast and ‘clearly’ told the NSF officials that once the University chooses the venue of the Exam, it is impossible to change, and as per UGC norms the exams have to be conducted at the University Campus, which will be done in the later years. For now, the nearest town is happens to be Mokokchung and it is in the interest of the scholars to conduct the exams here, the NU officials disclosed. Meanwhile, keeping the success of today’s exam, NU Officials said that the second UGC-NET Exams usually held in December will be conducted in Mokokchung town too.
