My first vote of thanks goes to the Rengma People and their Tribal, Social and Student Organisations. It is easy to start an agitation for one's legitimate rights, but hard to abort it midway, to alleviate the suffering of the Common Man. That the Rengma People recognised the plight innocent people faced, due to their Bandh, and decided to suspend it, must be commended.
There are two types of Governments around the world, Proactive and Reactive. A Proactive Government forsees possible outcomes in society and takes decisions and acts before things come to a head; whereas a Reactive Government only acts after issues and troubles erupt. Nagaland has made history by having the only INACTIVE GOVERNMENT in the history of mankind. Our present Legislators remain inactive to all pressing issues that Nagaland faces. They see only currency notes, hear only the rustle of those notes and can only utter "Solution, not Election". That they are stupid, in addition to being blind, deaf and dumb on every other matter, has been tragic for us. But I ask my Rengma Brothers not to lose heart; your Legitimate Grievances have been highlighted in the eyes of the People of Nagaland. If you Issue is not addressed now, then let the Elections be over and let us begin the fight for your Rights anew. No matter which Political Party comes to power, I am certain that Nagaland cannot produce 60 Legislators of such stupidity, at the same time, again. New faces, no matter how few, cannot but raise the collective intelligence level of the 60. Even a 0.001% rise in their average, collective IQ level will give them the wisdom to recognise your legitimate demand and grant you a separate district
My second issue touches a more personal and sombre issue; that of Mazie Nakhro. I do not know this Gentleman, but his daughter's post, along with his video statement, sent to me touched me deeply. Nakhro's plight is not unique. His ordeal, no matter how harrowing, has been played out before, in other villages, among other clans and tribes, throughout Nagaland. Every Election in Nagaland sees villages, clans and areas conferring on how to get their villager, clansman or area people to contest and win their respective Assembly Seat. Two contenders from the same village, clan or area are not allowed. The selected Contender is never the Best or Brightest but the most Ruthless, Unprincipled, Unscrupulous and Immoral Rascal of the two. This Elections has seen one Contender back down in favour of the other (in my original constituency of Atoizu) so that there will not be two contenders from our area, fighting against the third, who is from another area of our constituency. I intend to give my morak support to the candidate from the other area, because I know that he is a lesser rascal than the intending rascal from my area. Nakhro's ordeal has stirred my sympathies, but he has earned my respect and thanks, because of the bravery he exhibited in speaking out on this issue. Don't believe the con of "Clean Elections". Elections in Nagaland are dirty, not because the voter takes money for his vote; they are dirty because the CLEAN CANDIDATE IS DISCOURAGED FROM CONTESTING OR NEVER ALLOWED TO CONTEST ELECTIONS. And that is the Greatest Evil of the Election System in Nagaland. The voter is always presented a choice between two dirty candidates. So why should he be blamed if he takes what is RIGHTFULLY HIS from either of the two? Can anyone prove to me and to the People of Nagaland that any one of our present or intending Politicians has come by his riches through honest means. The People of Nagaland are not so stupid that we wouldn't recognise a Clean Candidate, nor are we so venial as to demand money from an Honest Candidate. Allow the Clean and Honest Candidates from our villages, clans, areas and tribes to contest and I can assure you that we will have clean elections.
Take heart Nakhro, for your time will come. You have planted the seed for a better Nagaland. It is for the rest of us to foster, shelter and nurture you and your kind; that we may enjoy the fruits of what you plant, in a future and better Nagaland.
