Final declaration on 33% reservation after dists round up

Wokha, April 21 (DIPR): Urban Development & Higher Education, Minister Dr. Shurhozelie visited Wokha on April 20 and held a consultative meeting regarding the 33% Women Reservation at the DC’s Conference’s Hall with NGOs, Kyong Hoho, Kyong Eloe Hoho, Kyong Students Union, Chambers of Commerce, DB’s and Senior Citizens.
While speaking, he emphasized the reservation policy to be implemented by the government of Nagaland and gave a brief introduction of Town Council and Municipal, where he further said that his purpose of visiting District Headquarters is to have a clear view and listen to the people’s opinion. Further, he said that more individual could participate for discussion apart from convening a meeting at the Capital. He also said that out of the eleven districts so far he visited three districts. “Only after districts round up - a final declaration on the issue of 33% Women Reservation Policy in the State will be made known to the people” Shurhozhelie added.
“Reserving seat quota for the women is like binding and taking away the rights and freedom of the women” said the Kyong Hoho President Yansathung Jami, where he opined that women should come forward for open competition. He also added that time is not fully ripe to implement the Policy and consider reservation through nomination.  
Speaking in support of the Reservation Policy the newly elected Chairperson of the Kyong Eloe Hoho, Thungchano Tsanglao, said women are equally responsible for building a better and just society therefore, the government should go ahead with the Reservation Policy.
The Women Reservation Policy, which has been incorporated in the resolution of the United Nation where India is also one of the signatories. The 74 Amendment Act of the Indian Constitution gives Rights to Women where all States of the Union has to incorporate within 90 days. Nagaland, in the year 2001 had passed the Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) and had finally came into force only in the year 2002. So far election could be held in two Municipal Councils and sixteen Town Councils in the year 2004.
