Final hearing on Municipal polls, 33% women quota held

DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): The final hearing on holding of Municipal and Town Council Elections and Reservation for Women in Nagaland was held on 27.06.12 at the Principal Bench Gauhati High Court, Guwahati. This was informed in a press note issued by the Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR). The Senior Counsel Supreme Court of India and Director Human Rights Law Network ,  Colin Gonsalves represented the Naga Women, assisted by Advocate Debasmita, Co-ordinator, HRLN, Guwahati and Advocate Zheviholi Swu, HRLN, Nagaland. 

The three hours Court hearing was concluded and the Judgment of the case is reserved. The hearing in Guwahati was attended by members of the Joint Action Committee   including   women leaders from Naga Mother’s Association, Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur, Tenyimi Women’s Oreganisation, Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho, Rengma Mothers’ Association, Zeliangrong Mepui Organisation, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Pochury Mothers’ Association and Kyong Eloe Hoho, besides several lawyers from the Human Rights Law Network, Guwahati.
