A final verdict on the Kezoltsa/Kozürü/Kazing/Dzükou area land dispute is yet to come as the Tenyimi People's Organisation (TPO) Board of Arbitrators (BoA) today sought a “better time” to deliver their judgement as the contending parties “were not prepared to accept the judgement.”

The TPO called for leaders of contending parties to come forward for amicable settlement, and appealed to the churches and the Tenyimi people to pray for instilling faith and wisdom for a peaceable solution.

A final judgement to the issue in accordance to the Tenyimi customary laws and practices was awaited before April 30.

The matter involving the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), Mao Council (MC), for which the Maram Khullen 2017 Arbitration Undertaking along with all the 10 Tenyimi tribes was invoked, had been pending in the TPO Court for over 5 years.

However, seeing the present situation, BoA Convener Sovenyi during the 21st General Session today at Purul Akutpa Village in the Senapati District of Manipur informed that “contending parties are not coming forward and are not prepared to accept the judgement.” He said that although the judgement was supposed to be delivered today, at present, “it is not permissible and therefore the board has decided to take more time and seek better time to deliver the judgement.” The same was conveyed verbally, he said.

The Convener maintained that the decision to the delay the verdict was taken during the last BoA meeting (undated) where the members were of the opinion that the BoA “should take more time.”

According to the Convenor, the Board, in its effort to settle an issue that was ‘within the Tenyimi family,’ met several times, spoke to leaders among the community, invited suggestions of leaders and thinkers, undertook surveys and recorded statement of all the parties, in order to sort through the best formula that would uphold and maintain the relationship and foundation of the Tenyimi people.

However, he concluded that it was only through better understanding and amicable settlement that the issue would be resolved once and for all.

“With collective wisdom, we should be capable to settling this issue as we have one of the best systems of self governance. It is not only a mission to settle the issue but to remove misunderstanding among ourselves, strengthen, unite and protect the integrity of our people,” he added.

A search committee was also constituted on Tuesday to appoint new office bearers for the next tenure and is set to meet on June 3 in Kohima where the BoA will be presenting the written report.

TPO Board of Arbitrators (BoA) comprises two member representatives each from the 10 Tenyimi tribes.
