Kiphire | September 8 : A fire struck Kiphire Town last night, damaging five commercial building which belonged to Late Asungba. The building constructed in early 60s was burned down to ashes. The fire which started around 10:15 pm lasted for an hour and was brought down by the paramilitary, well wishers and public risking their life. There were no causalities reported so far. The cause of the fire is believed to be short circuit.
It may be mentioned that this is the fourth major fire that broke out in district headquarter this year alone burning down properties worth crores of rupees and causing much problem to the affected people. However, people are helpless as there is no any modern equipment to fight this disaster. Mention may be made that the district was awarded with fire tender but it remain only in paper and the state government seems to turn blind even after witnessing so many fire incident in the district.
