Fire razes 8 houses in Paipijang

Atleast 40-50 families were rendered homeless after a fire blazed through a block of houses in Paipijang village, Dimapur, on October 23. The fire was reported to have started around 8:30-9:00 am before spreading rapidly. The Fire and Emergency Services pressed into action two fire trucks, and were able to control the flames within one hour. 

The affected families were residing in 8 houses/structures made of bamboo and tin.  There was no report of any human casualty. Damage to property was estimated to be in terms of lakhs, including savings in cash. One family reported losing Rs 80,000 in cash. Most of the affected victims are autorickshaw drivers and street vendors. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
