A private residence in Billy Graham Road Kohima was destroyed in a fire incident that broke out around on Monday afternoon. The owner of the house was on his way back from Jalukie when he received a call from his eldest daughter that their house was on fire. The mother had reportedly gone to pick one of their children from school when the incident took place.
Commander, SI Keyirangsoba Zeliang, Kohima Fire Station (South) told The Morung Express that they received a call around 12:32 pm and reached the venue at about 12:50 pm. Three fire tenders including two from the North Fire Station and one from South Fire Station were used to douse off the fire involving six fire personnel including the commander.
Zeliang said the fire was caused by a short circuit. Property worth an estimated Rs 8 lakh was destroyed in the fire, however, the fire response team managed to salvage property worth approximately Rs 20 lakhs. It took about half an hour to douse off the fire and the personnel left around 1:20 pm, the Commander informed.
No casualty was reported in the fire incident. However, except for the building, almost everything else was destroyed in the fire. The kind of property lost in the fire includes clothes, kitchen utensils, TV, sofa set, beds, documents, almirahs, etc.
