Fire service rescues property worth over Rs 25 cr during 2006

Kohima, April 8 (MExN): The Fire and Emergency Services rescued properties worth over Rs. 25 crores and one human life during 2006 in the state.

“Between the period January 2006 and December 2006, the department received altogether 407 calls and in attending to them, a number of lives could be saved and through the intervention of the fire service, properties to the tune of Rs. 25.07 crores and one human life were saved,” source said.

The Fire and Emergency services provides service to the citizens in times of fire incidents and other natural and man-made calamities and in the rescue of persons trapped in fire incidents or affected by other accidents of disaster.

The Fire Service Organization is under administrative control of the Home department. The nomenclature of Fire Service was changed to Fire and Emergency Services from March 10, 2004.

In the state, seven Fire Stations are located at Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon, Wokha and Zunheboto, a source in the department said.

The main objective of the Fire and Emergency Services is to save the life and property of affected people and conduct rescue operations as and when needed.

Various fire stations are equipped with following inputs over the years; Fire tender pump- 31, Foam Tender Pump- 2, Jeep Fire Engine- 6, Mini Pump- 4, Recovery Vehicle- 1 and three other vehicles.

The source said that construction of fire stations was taken up and communication network improved during the period, adding “the working system of the services has improved with induction of modern fire fighting equipments.”

The following are the achievements during the year under report, construction of OC’s Quarter Fire Station Kohima has been completed, construction of garage of Fire Stations in Dimapur and Tuensang has been completed and construction of residential quarters of Fire Service Station in Zunheboto and Wokha completed while the construction of Directorate building is in good progress and is almost complete.
