The Department of Women Resource Development has organised the first edition of "Exhibition on Tribal Attires & Designs" during the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2024 at Kisama Village.

The exhibition coincided with the department's event, the MykiFest 2024 to provide marketing platform and buy back system.
During the exhibition, all the 17 Naga tribes showcased their indigenous textile designs, motifs, patterns and ornaments attributing to their rich cultural identity with different traditional values, meaning and significances.

In a prize distribution ceremony held today at the Exhibition Hall, Hortiscape, Kisama Earthbound Mementos, Naga Touch and Myrtle by Heloise were awarded first, second and third prizes under the Entrepreneur for Women Stall.

They were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 24,000/-, Rs. 15,000/- and Rs. 9000/- along with certificates.

Under the Tribal Design Exhibition, Yimkhuing Women Organization,  Angami Women Organization and Konyak Women Organization were declared as first, second and third with cash prize of Rs. 35000, Rs. 23,000 and Rs. 12000 along with certificates. 

Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse was the special guest gave away the prizes. In her address, Kruse explained that the exhibition is being designed to celebrate and promote the rich tapestry of 'our' women's weaving traditions and cultural heritage.

While encouraging women entrepreneurs, she also spoke on the importance of incorporating modern technology for large scale production to support weavers.

The Minister acknowledged all the tribal representatives for their participation in the ten days exhibition stating that the display of indigenous cultural heritage will not only promote 'our' stories to the tourists but among the Nagas as well. She also thanked Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio for his continuous support to uplift Naga women through sustainable livelihood initiatives.

Briefly highlighting about the Myki Fest, Vilone Sakhrie, Director WRD said the fest is being held to celebrate women's contribution to the economic social development as equal partners of men.

Often, he said, women are pushed behind despite their roles in pushing the society forward.

Commissioner & Secretary, Zhothisa Dawhuo, also reminded that the purpose of the fest is to improve the socio economic status of the women in society, uplift them and facilitate self dependency.
