First of its kind Nagaland Spelling Bee competition in September

In another first for Nagaland, the state would be witnessing one of the most exciting literary competitions in the coming month – the 1st Nagaland Spelling Bee competition – an event expected to bring out the literary best among the students of the educational institutions of the state.

Conceptualized by the Fountain Club, Kohima and sponsored by the SCERT department with the Morung Express as the official media partner, the competition invites the participation of all educational institutions within Nagaland. The Spelling Bee competition offers a record Rs.50,000 for the champion speller, Rs.30,000 for second place, Rs.15,000 for third place and Rs.5000 for all quarter finalists.

Addressing newspersons at Hotel Japfu this evening, organizers of the competition, Fountain Club, said the aim behind organizing this competition is to provide a platform to the students to give their best and excel at the national and international levels as also to encourage them to explore their knowledge and intellect.

Admitting that in organizing such an event the club is treading on unfamiliar grounds, the officials expressed hope that the event would be a success and that the Spelling Bee competition would become an annual event in the coming years.

The competition is open for students between Class-VIII and XII for all educational institutions based within Nagaland and the organizers are expecting a minimum of 200 participants. Each educational institution will be allowed two participants; they said adding the competition would be held on September 28 and 29. On September 28, preliminary rounds would be held where selection would be done for the finals the next day.

As per the organizers, atleast 200 participants, mostly from private institutions, are expected to participate in the event. Besides the attractive cash incentives, the organizers are also in the process of partnering with other departments to offer additional incentives such as scholarships for the winners.

The event is being solely conceptualized, managed and initiated by the Fountain Club and sponsored by the state SCERT department.
