Three alleged drug peddlers have been apprehended and expelled from Wokha district following a series of coordinated anti-drug operations conducted by the Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) in collaboration with several local youth organisations.

The three accused identified as Phyobemo, Meribeni and Zuchilo have been barred from Wokha district for five years and directed to leave by Friday.

According to reports, one individual was caught by the Wokha Village Youth Organisation (WVYO) on May 3, while another was apprehended by the Tsumang Youth May 2. The third accused was caught during a joint operation conducted today by the LYH along with the WVYO, Longsa Youth Organisation (LYO), Niropen Youth, and youths from Wokha town.

The action follows an LYH circular declaring Wokha a drug-free district with effect from May 1, 2026, which imposes a blanket ban on the sale, possession and distribution of illegal drugs and narcotic substances within its jurisdiction.

The LYH warned that individuals involved in drug peddling would face strict penalties, including fines and expulsion, and urged all villages and ranges not to shelter the expelled persons.

Calling for active public participation, the organisation said the initiative was for the welfare of the entire community and not solely of the organisation.

On rehabilitation, the LYH underscored the urgent need to establish a detoxification centre in Wokha and called upon churches to contribute towards addressing the issue, both through action and support. It acknowledged Pastor Zanbemo Kithan for his continued support in the initiative.

The LYH also cautioned that any individual attempting to undermine or oppose the anti-drug movement, through phone calls or other means, would face strict action from the WVYO and LYO.

The organisation said surprise checking drives and patrols would continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies to curb drug abuse and ensure public safety in the district.
