FLPD demands action against encroachers

DIMAPUR, MARCH 24 (MExN): The Forum of Landowners/Pattadars, Dimapur (FLPD) has appealed for the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner to take action against land encroachers. A press note from the forum informed that it had submitted a representation to the Dimapur DC in January 2014, “depicting their grievances, especially regarding land encroachment and allotment of land pattas to non locals.” It had further urged for the responsible authority to “spot verify the matter and take action.”

The forum also reminded the district administration regarding “directives of the government that no land patta holder would occupy the land under army occupation, until the land is officially handed over to and taken over by the government.” It added that the forum has been “standing by the directives of the government.” However, it lamented that the DC has “failed to grant the plea made by the undersigned for allotment of time, as an audience for a number of times.” It informed that the spot verification was done only in the month of March 2014, and that the DC “has not taken any action against the encroachers.”

The forum also made available the letter and the verification report submitted to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard. The Land and Survey Officer, Dimapur had, in his report, informed that the plot of land at Block No 7, Dag No 24 and 25 has been developed by private parties by way of RCC construction. It stated that land under consideration is under the jurisdiction of army occupied area as per the surveyor report. The Surveyor from the LRS office, Dimapur in his report corroborated the same information.

“If the government cannot provide protection to the army occupied land, then it must stop the landowners/pattadars from protecting their own land. The land owners and pattadars will be compelled to take their own course of action, for which they shall not be held responsible,” the FLPD stated.
