Flyovers an answer to Kohima jams?

•-The stretch of road between NSF Martyrs’ Park and TCP Gate is every driver’s nightmare, although in other parts of Kohima town too, traffic is not so fluid.
So how does it begin? Vehicles coming from/going towards Naga Hospital side and those coming from the southern side have to give way alternately. As one party gives way to the other, one or two vehicles pile up behind the waiting party. This way the queue becomes longer and longer, one or two vehicles at a time, as traffic gets heavier by the minute. The aforementioned stretch of road bears the brunt since it is the main connection line between the lower and upper parts of the town with very high frequency of passing vehicles. The situation is made worse since every day sirens and whistles scream by with VIPs who seem to be always in such a hurry.
The diversion route which is used during emergencies is not very popular with drivers who offer different reasons to veer back into the dear old snail-paced line. Also the diversion takes obedient drivers nowhere much, because they are simply diverted from one traffic queue to another. Likewise the diversion route that is being constructed above War Cemetery may not bring much relief.
Hence from an unscientific but logical view of an onlooker that it may be easier to climb and crawl across on top than to fight your way through an opposing crowd, it may be wise if the Government can construct a flyover along the stable walls of the War Cemetery area, curve it towards East (to avoid landslide-prone area to the West) and then out somewhere into the wide Phoolbari area, thereby restricting all vehicles coming from the south to cross TCP traffic point. Just a suggestion ……… Happy rides VIPs !!!
