Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that the since formation of the PDA government in March 2018, the focus of the government has been to improve governance and ensure that the government functions with transparency and accountability.
Speaking at the launching programme of a statewide interactive Digital Smart Boards for Smart Classroom here Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Rio said the government had announced that “we will leverage Information Technology for Good Governance. Accordingly all departments have their websites now which are updated with all relevant information. We also ensured that all departments have presence of social media specially, facebook & twitter with which departments are communicating with citizens.”
The chief minister said that the government had also decided to implement biometric attendance systems which has been installed in almost all departments and directorates.
“This will definitely not only help improve attendance but will also have a positive impact on our work culture and productivity,” Rio said.
Stating that the government have recently linked it to payment of salaries, he said “I am sure this step will bring a change in our work culture.”
“We are a state that is short of resources and most of our developmental plans are dependent on CSS and Flagship Schemes. Accordingly monitoring of Flagship programs and projects through use of Technology is very important,” he said.
Towards this objective, he said the government had set up CM Dashboard for proper monitoring of such schemes.
“All these efforts has led to Nagaland being recognized as the top state in the National e-governance Service Delivery Assessment, that was recently announced in National e-Governance Conference in Mumbai,” Rio said.
According to the NeSDA report, Nagaland topped the list of the Northeast & hill states with the overall score of 0.47. Assam came second with 0.28 while Manipur stood at the third spot with a score of 0.23.
He stated that along with introduction of technology in governance, the government has been focusing on improving education by leveraging technology.
“We had enabled Geo tagging of our schools and data with regard to deployment of teachers in various schools has been made public on a Geo spatial platform that will enable ensuring that teachers actually teach in the schools,” Rio said.
Apeni Lotha, additional director & HoD, higher education department said that the launching of Interactive Smart Board for Smart Classroom is to enhance the quality of education between the academic years 2020-2030.
She said that there is a 100% National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessment of all the colleges in Nagaland, particularly the government colleges and presently there are 9 (nine) government colleges assisted by NAAC.
Apeni also mentioned that this initiative is not only promote the use of technology but also to promote global competitiveness amongst students of Nagaland.
Smart boards for smart classrooms are important for education revolution, she added.
