NFHRCC and Dimapur-based tribal orgs defer picketing of PWD (R&B) Dimapur

Dimapur | April 14

The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) and Dimapur-based tribal hohos announced the suspension of their planned agitation against the state government, which was scheduled to begin on April 15. The protest was set to involve picketing the office of the Nagaland PWD (Roads and Bridges) Dimapur Division.

The decision was reached during a consultative meeting with the parent tribal hohos held at Hotel Saramati on April 14, as per a press release from the NFHRCC. The committee stated that, at the request of the parent bodies, the “scheduled phase wise agitation” that was set to commence from April 15, 2026, has been kept “in abeyance for the time being.”

The NFHRCC maintained that it will continue playing its “watchdog” role over the proposed upgrading of the Nagaland Foothills Road to the status of a two-lane National Highway in view of what it stated was “NOC issued by the Apex Tribal hohos.” Furthermore, the committee resolved to urge the “Government of Nagaland to explain publicly the Revised Administrative Approval of Rs 43077.84 lakh” (Rs 430.77 crore) exclusively allocated for the foothills road construction.

The NFHRCC further appealed to the public to remain prepared in the event the agitation is resumed should the state government fail to fulfill the aspirations of the public regarding the project.

The release did not state the grounds for the deferment. When queried, a member of the committee, told The Morung Express, “They have to explain to the Naga public what has become of the fund (Rs 430.77 crore) sanctioned in 2024 for the second phase the foothill road project.”
