
Chümoukedima, May 4 (MExN): Child Friendly City Initiatives of ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) - Don Bosco, Dimapur in collaboration with Social Work Department, St Joseph University, Chümoukedima organised a youth creative activity in photography competition cum exhibition on May 4 at SJU.
It was held with the objective to create responsiveness on the rights of children through active involvement of the youth among the peers and in the community at large. The competition was held on the theme ‘For Every Child.’
Speaking on the occasion as the judge, Dr Kinitoli H Yeptho, Dean of Academic, SJU, expressed gratitude to AIDA for organizing such programs to sensitize people towards violation of child rights in different forms and appreciated Child Friendly Dimapur, AIDA for working relentlessly towards making Dimapur and Chümoukedima child friendly cities.
Mechietonu Agnes, Civil Society Mobilization Officer, Child Friendly Dimapur addressing the youth shared on the concept of the Child Friendly Dimapur of AIDA. She said that Child Friendly Dimapur is in line with the United Nation Child Friendly City Initiatives. As part of the programme awareness creation on the rights of the children with the active participation of the youth in the society are promoted.
Mhabemo C Yanthan (MARD), 2nd Semester, in his speech shared on the importance of Child Rights and why it matters. He also stressed on the Child Rights Acts like Article 21 A – Right to Free and Compulsory Elementary Education for all children between the age 6-14 years, Article 24 – Right to be protected from any hazardous employment till the age of 14, Article 39 (e) - Right to be protected from being abused and forced by economic necessity to enter occupation to their age or strength. Lastly he shared on the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child that protects the economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights of children.
Keku Ngaubui bagged the first prize, followed by Rhuyo Kezo and Ngunying K Konyak winning second and the third places respectively.
