For the Naga National Unity

The Naga national unity is an essential and urgent need of the Nagas. Thus, many Naga scholars and educated people, young and old, are importantly talking about the Naga national unity at present, giving their own suggestions, saying; the NNC, NSCN-IM, and NSCN-K should form a united political platform, without knowing that would be another faction to be formed at this chaotic factional problem. We have to know that the Nagas have their own unshakable national foundation to which the Nagas have to be united for the achievement of the national goal. I, therefore, would like to suggest for the national unity as follow.

The unity must be based on a unique history.

That is;
1.     The Nagas had never fallen into any foreign domination in human history.

2.     The Nagas had no treaty or agreement with Great Britain to surrender their sovereignty.

3.     The Nagas have no agreement to join either the Union of Indian or Burma.

4.     Instead, the Naga National Council (NNC) declared their age-old Independence of Nagaland before India and Burma became independent nations.

5.     The NNC conducted a Naga voluntary Plebiscite on May 16, 1951 and reaffirmed the declaration of Independence by 99.9% of Naga people, before India and Burma divided Nagaland in March 1953. These historical landmarks disproved the claim of India and Burma on the Naga territories as integral parts of theirs.

6.     As the Prime Ministers of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and U Nu, the Prime Minister of Burma, ignored the will of the Naga people and divided Nagaland in March 1953, they sent their armed forces to Nagaland in 1955 and started the war with the Nagas. The conflict with India and Burma is, therefore, a case of aggression, but not a secession.

7.     The Nagaland or the NNC/FGN has no agreement or accord with India or Burma to surrender the sovereignty of Nagaland to date.

To be decided by the NSCN leaders and their supporters in the interest of unity.

1.     The leaders of NSCN declared in 1980 that the NNC/FGN had surrendered by signing an accord in 1975. But the truth was that the NNC/FGN did not surrender. The NNC/FGN thus continued to observe the Naga National Days (Independence and Plebiscite). This year, 2025, the NNC/FGN, including all the Nagas, NSCN factions, and the Eastern Naga people (under the occupation of Burma), also observed the 79th Naga Independence Day. This is a recognition by all that the Nagaland or NNC/FGN did not surrender in history. So, let them decide, should they accept the truth or the lie?

2.     Again, Muivah and Isak claimed that they formed the NSCN and saved the Naga nation. But the fact was that God made the Accord of 1975 null and void in itself and saved the Nagas nation. Let them decide that God saved the Naga nation, or Muivah and Isak.

3.     God brought peace to Nagaland in 1975, but Muivah and Isak arrogantly rejected it, saying; “We rule out the illusion of saving Nagaland through peaceful means. Arms and arms again that will save our nation and ensure freedom to the people”. Then, after 22 years, they made their own peace with India in 1997. Which one will they accept, peace brought by God or made by Muivah-Isak?

4.     The foundation of Independent Nagaland was completed by the NNC, by declaring Independence in 1947 and conducting a plebiscite in 1951. Even Th. Muivah admitted that the NNC, under the leadership of Phizo founded the Naga nation when he visited Phizo’s graveyard on July 11, 2010.

But the NSCN-IM signed a Framework Agreement on 3rd August 2015 in New Delhi, after 68 years of the Naga Independence declaration, and has been demanding shared sovereignty from India. Which violated the unique history or compromised sovereignty. Let them decide to uphold the sovereignty or to sell it out.

NAME OF NAGALAND
5. The name of the Naga country as “NAGALAND” was christened by the Naga National leaders when the Naga National Council (NNC) was formed on 2nd February 1946. And this was approved formerly by the NNC on December 10, 1950. When the NNC conducted a Plebiscite on May 16, 1951, Nagaland was fully used by NNC President A.Z, Phizo in his speech. When the NNC President Phizo submitted a memorandum to the UN on 8th October 1960, Nagaland was used. In response to memorandum by the UN, Nagaland was used.

When the Naga People’s Convention (NPC) demanded a statehood under the Indian Union in 1960, the NPC proposed “Nagaland” for a name of state. The other the Indian leaders rejected it. But the Prime Minister Nehru said, if Thai people can have “Thailand” why not the Nagas. The NPC thus had a state name, ”Nagaland”. Again, when Isak, Muivah, and Khaplang formed the so-called NSCN, they used Nagaland. Moreover, when the NSCN-IM signed a Framework Agreement in New Delhi on 3rd August 2015, they used Nagaland. But now NSCN-IM calls “Nagalim”. The name of Naga country should not be two, but only one “Nagaland”.

NAGA NATIONAL FLAG
6. The original Naga National Flag adopted by the NNC in 1955 was that of David’s Star with six equal spikes signifying six working days of the week. This was approved by the Tatar Hoho (Parliament) of the FGN on 22nd March 1956.

The Flag of Breadth and length is 4/6 feet.  Rainbow starts from the left corner, 3 inches up from the bottom, and the right corner, 3 inches down from above.

But the so-called NSCN-IM flag has one elongated spike. That is the Star of Bethlehem. This is not a constitutionally approved Flag of Nagaland, which has been used by the NSCN-IM since 2000. The NSCN-IM should not make all things different from those of other Nagas.

7. The Indo-Naga conflict should be solved based on history, as the NNC declared Naga Independence on 14th August 1947, before India and Burma became independent nations. And 99.9% of Naga people reaffirmed the Declaration of Independence when the NNC conducted a voluntary Plebiscite on May 16, 1951, before India and Burma divided the Naga country in March 1953.

But the NSCN leaders have no pivotal position to say that the NSCN declared the Naga Independence in 1947 and conducted a Plebiscite in 1951. Because the NSCN was formed only in 1980, after 33 years of India became independence.

For the Framework Agreement, it doesn’t need to talk about history, because it is a political solution within the Indian Union.

But as we stand to defend the sovereignty of Nagaland, we need to talk about history, for solving the conflict with India and Burma, because we want a recognition of our country as a sovereign nation by the world, based on the age-old Independence declared by the Naga National Council, ahead of India and Burma became independent nations.

As we want national unity to achieve our national goal, there should not be two national stands, two names of Naga country, two Naga national flags, and there should not be many groups/factions. But all of us must be united under one authentic political institution of our nation, which has existed since 1946. We all must understand that it is not the time to play political games by forming political parties./factions. Because we have yet to solve our problem with aggressors, we need to speak in one voice and with one national goal.
