Former MLA Dr Longrineken

DIMAPUR, MARCH 8 (MExN): Dr Longrineken, former Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) from the 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency, passed away on March 7 in Dimapur. He was a two-time legislator and had served in several roles in the State government during his tenure.

Dr Longrineken was first elected to the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 29-Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency. During his time in office, he held responsibilities in the government as Advisor and Parliamentary Secretary of various departments. He was later re-elected to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and served as Advisor, Law & Justice.

The funeral service for the late Advisor was held at his residence in Aoyim, Dimapur at 2:00 pm on March 8. He was 58.

Apart from his political career, Dr Longrineken was also involved in humanitarian work. He served voluntarily in the State Coordination of the “Indian Campaign to Ban Landmines” under the Indian Institute for Peace, Disarmament and Environment Protection, Nagpur, as well as with “Geneva Call,” Switzerland, contributing to initiatives promoting peace, human rights and humanitarian principles.

Following news of his passing, several leaders and public figures expressed condolences and paid tribute to his life and service.

Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio said he was “deeply shocked and saddened”. Remembering him as “a gentle and kind person, a sincere leader who carried his responsibilities with humility and dedication,” the Chief Minister added that “his passing is a great loss to all who knew him.” He further noted that “the Ao community in general and Khar village in particular, have lost a respected leader and mentor,” and stated that “the void left by his absence will be deeply felt.”

Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, also expressed grief over the loss, stating the late leader “served with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility” and added that “throughout his life, he remained a humble and approachable leader.”

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said he was “shocked and described him as “a respected former MLA from 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency and a dedicated colleague.” Patton added that “a kind soul, Dr. Longrineken will be deeply missed,” and said “his simplicity and humility earned him respect and his dedication to service will be remembered.” He also noted that “Dr. Longrineken's dedication to public service has left a lasting impact on all who knew him.”

Rural Development Minister Metsubo Jamir expressed sadness and stated that late Dr Longrineken’s “gentle character made him a very genuine person of strong character. I have been touched by his humble and strong moral character during my brief association with him.”

The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang said that Dr Longrineken was a “dedicated public servant whose leadership and commitment to the welfare and progress of the Ao community and Nagas will always be remembered.” 

The Lok Janshakti Party Ramvilas also expressed sadness and stated that “his is dedicated service and commitment to the people will always be remembered.” “Dr Longrineken had rendered invaluable service to the people of Nagaland and made significant contributions to public life and the development of the State. His demise is a great loss to the people of Nagaland,” it stated.

The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State Unit said “he was a person who was approachable and easily adjustable with everyone, earning the respect and affection of colleagues and party workers alike.”
