Former student leader has Vicca Aye clarified that he had written the letter to the Governor in his personal capacity as a former student leader and as a genuine citizen, and had not ascribed any political affiliations to it.

He was addressing a section of media persons in Dimapur on Tuesday aftermath the controversy surrounding Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton, who allegedly said that he could manipulate the Nagaland Public Service Commission, during a students’ conference in Merapani on January 28.

It may be mentioned that Vicca had written a letter to the Governor of Nagaland on February 1 urging him to take stringent action against the Deputy CM stating that the speech which he (Dy. CM) delivered during the conference was “tantamount to the Government admitting to corruption in the highest Civil Service Institution.”

“If at all there was any political colour to it then I would have used party (NDPP) designation and there is no malicious intent in writing to the Governor,” he said and expressed the hope that the NDPP was also clear enough that the letter was written purely in his individual capacity.

Stating that audio recording was available to justify his stand, he challenged the State BJP to translate the speech and make it available for public consumption if they profess concern for the public.

He said that the Lotha Students’ Union had also issued press statement with regard to the speech of the Deputy CM stating that merit students could approach him (Dy.CM).

Referring to the BJP statement describing Patton as having always stood for “fairness and meritocracy,” Vicca wondered as to why the merit students would approach him if he (Patton) believes in fairness and meritocracy.

“I have not put any allegation on him (Patton) on any corruption issue either in Home Department or PWD but I have focused only on the part of his speech regarding NPSC,” he said and appealed the BJP not to behave like untouchables where its leaders cannot be questioned since he was a Deputy CM of Nagaland and not BJP alone.

Vicca said that the State BJP had attacked him for shifting political parties but countered that it was the right of any person to join any party. In this connection, he urged the State BJP to clarify as to whether their present party legislators have not defected or rejoined any political party during the last 15 years.

Vicca said it was upto the Governor to take any action on the Deputy CM and expressed the hope that the Governor’s office would do justice on the issue.

Meanwhile, S Aye has demanded public apology through the local dailies from the State BJP for allegedly accusing him of being a government teacher.

Asking the party to provide proof of evidence with regard to his appointment order and place of posting, he said the apology should be tendered within three days or failing which he would not hesitate to take legal recourse.
