Free cancer screening camp held in Chümoukedima

Chomoükedima, April 22 (MExN): A free cancer screening camp was held at Holy Redeemer Health Centre, Chümoukedima in collaboration with St John’s Medical College, Bangalore.

The camp was graced by Dr Antoly Swu, Deputy Chief Medical officer, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Dimapur, as the special guest.

Doctors from St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, namely Dr Shashikala, head of the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Dr Vishakha, Senior Resident of OBG Oncology department led the screening assisted by Rev Sr Dr Rosemary UFC, Dr Angeline and other hospital staff.

Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, Rev Fr John Thekkekkara, Deputy Director of St John’s Medical College, Bangalore and Razouvotuo Chatsu, president, Angami Public Organization (APO) also graced the occasion.
Earlier, Rev Fr Chacko Karinthayil, Secretary, Health Commission, Diocese of Kohima welcomed the participants while Rev Sr Christy Maria, Administrator of Holy Redeemer Health Centre read a Scripture passage and Rev Fr Anthony Dukru, Principal of St Joseph Parish, Chümoukedima invoked God’s blessing while Rev Fr Sajan Joseph, Director of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) pronounced a final prayer.

“Nagaland is one of the leading cancer prevalent states in the country but owing to poor facilities for its management, many patients are compelled to move out of the state in search of treatment causing huge financial burden, emotional and psychological strain causing disruption in family and social relationships,” stated a press release received here. 

In the ongoing battle against cancer and other health challenges, initiatives like these illuminate the path forward, offering hope and support to individuals and families facing daunting health issues, it stated.
