A free multi-specialty health camp jointly organized by Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur and Lenjem Hospital, Mokokchung was held in Lenjem Hospital, Mokokchung on June 10 and 11. More than 400 patients were consulted and treated in the two-day camp.
Four doctors Dr Anand Dilip Vakade, Urologist, Dr Ahuto G Yeptho, ENT, Dr Yansaromo Yanthan, Radiation Oncologist, and Dr Tsuknungyanger Aier, Opthamologist were available for free consultation for the two days along with two ear and eye technician. Along with them there were three medicine companies who distributed free medicines.
The free medical camp is a first of its kind in Lenjem Hospital, informed Dr Imsu Jamir. “There are a lot of people who cannot afford to go to other places for treatment and ENT and eye problems are high in our town and our people really need them,” he said. “We are trying to collaborate with other hospitals in Kohima and Dimapur so that such free camps can be held as a yearly event,” he added.
Dr Tsuknungyanger Aier, Opthamologist said that the camp was an opportunity for the people as there are not enough facilities and infrastructure to treat various health problems. He also said that it was an opportunity for the doctors to help the people.
“Many people suffer mostly without knowing their eye problem and it may lead to blinding conditions if not treated or if they go unaware of it,” he said. “We are helping in diagnosing major problems and if they have any major issues, we are referring them for further treatment,” he added.
