Fresh leadership tussle emerges in UGN/NNC (Parent Body)

Kiutsangkhiung-led UGN/NNC (PB) merges with GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo)

Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): Another leadership tussle has surfaced within a Naga Political Group (NPG), this time with the United Government of Nagaland/Naga National Council (Parent Body) [UGN/NNC (PB)], with two conflicting statements being issued in the past three days.

In a press release on August 26, the UGN/NNC (PB) informed that Vice President Akaho Swu had been appointed as the new President following the completion of the tenure of in-term President Kiutsangkhiung, who served from July 13, 2024, to August 20, 2025.

The appointment, it stated, was endorsed by the central cabinet along with Kilonsers, Regional Authorities, and the military wing under C-in-C Lt Gen Kirenkiu, after the oath of allegiance was administered.

However, in a rejoinder issued on August 28, the UGN/NNC (PB) led by President Kiutsangkhiung claimed that an emergency meeting of all ranks and files of the NPG on August 27 had “unanimously impeached” Akaho Swu, Vice President of the UGN, and Ato Kilonser Nupavi Achumi, interim Ato Kilonser (General Secretary).

According to the update, the House found that Akaho and Nupavi Achumi had “deliberately violated the government’s code of conduct through unconstitutional practices.”

To preserve and protect the Government Yezabo, the House unanimously impeached the duo with “immediate effect,” it added.

It further informed that the UGN/NNC (PB), under the leadership of President Kiutsangkhiung, had merged with the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) “for upholding the Naga people’s rights of freedom and for the early resolution of the Naga issue.”
