
Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The State Election Commission, Nagaland has issued a notification announcing the conduct of a fresh election to Ward 11 (Zhipa) of Pfutsero Town Council in Phek district. The election has been necessitated following a casual vacancy. Administrative approval for the election programme was conveyed by the government on September 10.
According to the notification, the schedule for the election programme has been fixed as follows: publication of the election programme on September 26; filing of nominations from October 6 to 9 up to 3:00 pm; posting of validly presented nomination papers on October 10; scrutiny of nomination papers and posting of validly nominated candidates on October 13; filing of applications for revision of the order of the authority scrutinizing the nomination from October 14 to 16 up to 3:00 pm; decision on revision applications on October 17; last date for withdrawal of candidature on October 18 up to 3:00 pm; and posting of the list of contesting candidates and polling stations on October 18 after 3:00 pm.
Polling will be held on October 28 between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. In case of a re-poll, it will be conducted on October 30. Counting and declaration of results will take place on October 31 from 8:00 am onward at the designated Counting Centre/Hall.
The electoral roll for the election will be the roll with reference to January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date and finally published on April 12, 2024 along with subsequent amendments, if any, made thereto as per Rule 14(1) of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023.
In a separate notification issued under sub-section (3) of Section 31 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, the Commission appointed the following officers as Election Observers for Ward 11 (Zhipa) under Pfutsero Town Council: TL Kiusumong Tikhir, NCS, Joint Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department; and A Zibenthung Kithan, NCS (Reserve), Joint Secretary, Urban Development Department.
