THE FUTILITY OF BANDHS

My last tirade against the regressive policies of the Hohos has already attracted the expected venom and vitriol as accepted. So, further introduction I feel is unnecessary.

Agreed that the present Chief Minister of the Indian state of Nagaland is the most incompetent chief minister, we the younger generation has ever seen. Leaving that aside I would like to ask the “esteemed” leaders of the numerous organizations is that can removing a chief minister who has the full backing of his legislators be even legally done? As long as he has a majority of legislators in his pocket, no amount of ranting and raving to polish personal egos to change the reality of being under an occupiers  (Indian) Constitution which also gives us the Article 371 (a) Our Hohos are leading a group of Nagas on a wild goose chase and as a common person we have no qualms about that. But when it starts affecting the daily life of ordinary Nagas is when the problem arises. We request our esteemed ‘tribal leaders’ to exclude daily bread earners, business establishments from the preview of indefinite bandh. In short the flow of essential commodities should not be affected. Furthermore when entrepreneurship in our society in its nascent stage essential infrastructure like internet and mobile connectivity should be immediately restored lest the government of Nagaland and our esteemed ‘tribal leaders’ want to take our society backward.

The last part of my letter is addressed to our Hohos. What is the end game you seek? Some leaders I have spoken to have no idea beyond bringing down the Chief Minister. Won’t this also be a step in the wrong direction? If you really want this to be a genuine movement of the people start targeting corruption and cronyism which at the root is what lead to this sad state of affairs we find ourselves today. So that the lives of three innocent souls we lost recently will not go to waste. The leaders must reevaluate how the movement is being carried out and to what ends. If they cannot accomplish this simple task it would be better to resign enmasse and handover the reigns of leading these organizations to wiser folks, lest you want to see the respectability of these organizations to erode.

If you let your ego lead you leaders from both sides of the spectrum on this path of confrontation for few more days. Then the youngsters, the poors, and those who eke out the daily living will come and totally crush any semblance of respect you hold among the Nagas.

Nagas are ever ready to die for a right cause lead by a wise leader but be warned that the common people will not tolerate dictatorial institution who are fond of giving diktats and try to confuse the Nagas.
