Gen (Retd) Metha call for oneness of national principle

The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) today celebrated ‘79th Nagaland Independence Day’ at Thenyizumi village in Phek district.

Addressing the celebration, Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha, Kedahge, FGN said that “the younger generation is the future of our nation and it is the duty of every Naga to begin creating a ground and atmosphere for our nation to have a thriving and vibrant future.”

To create such a future as a sovereign nation our constitutional rights and duties are of utmost importance as citizens and to ensure the rights and duties of each citizen constitutional order must be implemented, he said.

This is the very character of a sovereign nation that under such constitutional order, its citizens are secure and their freedom as individuals are guaranteed, he said and adding “we as a nation must move towards our own future as enshrined in our Yehzabo.”

Gen (Retd) Metha also stressed on the need to move ahead by forging a oneness of national principle, integrity, values and character as Nagas. “It should be as strong as iron and steel forged in the strongest of heat and hammered by the heaviest of hammers, he said.

The programme was led by Capt (Retd) Yirei Lungleng, Rali Wali Kilonser, FGN while Thenyizumi Village Council chairman Medothi Rhakho delivered welcome address.

The celebration witnessed presentation of awards, mass special prayer for the nation, cultural performances from Yoruba youth, Thenyizumi women group, Kuzha Cultural Society, Chetheba women group and Shothalü Nyekha and friends.

Shevohü Keyho, Killo Kilonser FGN led acknowledgment while vote of thanks was proposed by Kamucho Chiizho, Midan Peyu, Chakhesang Region FGN. Rev Dr Chekrove-i Cho-o, executive secretary Chakhesang Baptist Church Council and Thepuzhoyi Theyo, pastor, Thenyizu Baptist Church prayed for the programme.
