‘Get switched on and break the barriers’

Zhavame Students’ Union holds 56th General Session

KOHIMA, January 3 (MExN): The Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) observed its 56th General Session with Vechisalü Nukhu (NSS), Additional Secretary, Horticulture, Government of Nagaland as chief guest. The two day general session was held from December 28-29, 2015 at the Public Ampitheatre, Pame Tsudu, Zhavame Village under the theme, “Get switched on and break the barriers.”

Speaking on the occasion, Vechisalü Nukhu (NSS), Additional Secretary, Horticulture exhorted the students by saying that only the best and the hard working people are going to make it in this very competitive world. Stating that there is no room for laziness in today’s age, she said, “to achieve your dreams, your goals, you need to have a life of discipline, clean habits and an active life, and also identify your gift and try to improve on it.”

She further dwelt upon the fast growing world of technology and said that while we must be thankful to God for all the modern gadgets which have improvised the living standard of humankind, we must not misuse what God has blessed us with. Pointing to the use of smart phones, she observed that it has just become a lifestyle and not a necessity. Towards this end, she called upon the students to ask themselves, “do I really need it? Can my parents afford it?” In the meantime, she asked, “are those smart phones making you really smart and intelligent, more learned, educated in all fields?” “Don’t let your smart phones make you fools”, she advised.

On the theme, “Get switched on and break the barriers”, she impressed upon that, “if you have the will power, the commitment and common sense, you can break any barrier.” “You can compete with anyone in any profession. If others can do it, you can also achieve it. Our brains are not inferior to others. All you need is hard work and perseverance, positive attitude, and faith in God for success”, she asserted. She also encouraged the students to find ways for self employment and other alternate job opportunities and not just strive for government service.

The Additional Secretary further reminded that if they want to succeed in life, they should put God first in their life. She also congratulated all the meritorious students.
