The Ghotovi Students’ Union (GSU) celebrated its silver jubilee on December 29 at its village with Minister PHED, Jacob Zhimomi as the special guest and Chairman, Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), Dr. Khekugha Murru as the resource person.

After unveiling the jubilee monolith, Jacob told the students not to expect the legislators to satisfy their personal wants and needs after casting their franchise in favour of that particular candidate. He said that the government has banned all backdoor appointments and educated youngsters should desist from entry into government service through irregular means. Jacob encouraged the youngsters to strive hard and come out in successful colours through various competitive examinations.
“Even if you do not have a white collar job, there are a lot of means and avenues to earn your livelihood if you are sincere in whatever jobs or entrepreneurship you take up,” he said.

To the parents, the Minister told them not to remain complacent after their children complete their studies but to continue guiding them till they could stand on their own feet. Jacob told the Sumi community to introspect as to why they were lagging in many fields in Naga society.

He said progress and development could not be brought by the government alone but that the public should also extend their strong support and cooperation towards the efforts of the government for betterment of the society.

Dr. Khekugha Murru, who released the jubilee souvenir said that any jubilee milestone was not simply achieved with years passing by but that one should acknowledge and remember the pioneers and subsequent leaders who gave their best for the GSU. He pointed out that the hard labour put in by earlier leaders was being reaped by today’s youngsters and urged the present generation to sincerely work for a better tomorrow. Dr. Khekugha urged upon the gathering to look back and see how much they have achieved during the last 25 years socially as well as spiritually.

In this fast changing era where modernization has engulfed the globe, the speaker urged the youngsters to reflect upon and weigh the pros and cons of adopting western culture. “Completion of 25 years is already an adult now and accordingly we should behave and live like adults,” he added.
Dr. Khekugha pointed out that the student community could contribute a lot to the society but rued that the lack of work culture was leaving the society redundant. He said that the time is not far when outsiders would soon take complete control over the state economy if Nagas remain lazy to take up works which they themselves are capable of doing.

Stating that technology has advanced beyond imagination, Dr. Khekugha implored upon the youngsters to positively and effectively use social media instead of becoming chained to it.

Head GB Ghotovi village, Kahoto Zhimomi delivered the welcome address during the programme which was attended by a host of students and leaders from various villages.
