Give Wokha a Dimapur link, appeal village council

Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): A village in Wokha today advised the government of Nagaland to ‘rise above politics’ and give Wokha district a road link to the commercial district of Nagaland, Dimapur.
Although Kohima, Peren and Wokha districts are blessed and bordered with the commercial Hub of Nagaland, yet Wokha is “still in the dark to avail a pliable link” directly with road connectivity to Dimapur, as that of Kohima and Peren, Meriyan Village Council said in a note today. The village council lamented in its message to the government – “This had given the Lotha’s huge financial loss in transportation cost and had also made slow pace in all round development. Perhaps, it is also quite surprising to see the Lotha politicians, intellectuals or NGOs being so non-vocal about one of the most important facilities in the 21st century and the lack-a-dais cal attitude of the concern Road & Bridges department for not initiating any new road projects to Dimapur from Wokha.”
“I am sure, it is high time we rise above political lines and seek what we had been deprived of, for the last 48 years,” stated Z Yambemo Tsanglao, VDB of Meriyan. Tsanglao stated that ‘it is certain that if the four elected representatives from Wokha are for welfare, vision and farsightedness, “then there is every possible way to accommodate new DPR through Ministry of Road Transport or DoNER Ministry under NLCPR or through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs where Article 275 provides.”
The Central government had earlier on “initiated” the Wokha- Bokajan Road funded through NEC and manned by BRTF/GREF. “It was not completed and abandoned due to reason best known to the government only. This road can also be retaken, if the government is serious enough to give development to the Lotha’s.  In fact, the road connectivity would also benefit three more districts in terms of short mileage and financial saving aspect too,” the village said.
