GNF flags alleged harassment of Christians during Christmas

Kohima, December 28 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has condemned what it described as incidents of harassment, intimidation and attacks on Christians in various parts of India during the Christmas celebrations of 2025.

“Acts such as disrupting church services, vandalising Christmas decorations, and threatening peaceful celebrants, many of them women and children are a direct assault on the spirit of Christmas and on the conscience of the nation,” the GNF stated in a statement issued on December 28.

The forum claimed that the incidents were carried out by extremist elements allegedly linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bajrang Dal, and termed the actions “shameful and unacceptable.”

According to the GNF, such conducts violate Article 25 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess, practise and propagate religion. It also undermines the foundational values of equality, fraternity, and secularism enshrined in the Constitution, it  added.

The organisation asserted that targeting Christians during Christmas reflects intolerance rather than patriotism and cautioned that allowing such acts to go unchecked could erode constitutional freedoms.

The GNF expressed solidarity with the Christian community and called upon the Government of India and concerned state authorities to take decisive action, ensure accountability of those responsible, and safeguard the right of citizens to practise and celebrate their faith peacefully.
