GOC 3 Corps greets on Army Day

Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): On the occasion of Army Day 2011, Lt Gen NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps has conveyed his greetings and best wishes to all ranks of the Army. Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year, in recognition of Lieutenant General (later Field Marshal) K. M. Cariappa becoming the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949.  
GOC 3 Corps, in his message, brought out that the Army has played a major role in the overall growth and development of the region in addition to its primary duty to safeguard the country. Having been deployed in the area over many years, Army has been working together with the people of the land to achieve peace, security and prosperity in the region.
The message also stated that the Army has been constantly identifying areas of improvement and has been dedicating its resources, both human and material, to the society’s development. The preceding year has seen a phenomenal contribution by the Army in various spheres. Projects which address infrastructure development, dozer work on link roads, educational tour of children and youth, conduct of medical and veterinary camps, conduct of vocational training courses  for women empowerment, have been tailor made to  suit the specific needs of the people of  villages and towns. A lot of time, effort and resources have been committed by the Army to reach out to all sections of the society. Special efforts to conduct Army recruitment rallies in remote areas has  enabled youth to get a noble and honourable service thus changing the life of many families for the better.
On this day the Army also announces the award of Chief of Army Staff and Vice Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards to army personnel.
